After having built a career as a beloved troubadour in his native Australia, Daz Cordeux dipped from the limelight in 2015 and immersed himself in his record collection, soaking up the sunshine-drenched, jangly guitars of 60s artists and their Britpop successors. A series of personal tragedies forced the songwriter to break a 4-year creative hiatus and channel these influences into his own music. In 2022, armed with a new sound and storybook, Cordeux cherry-picked his favorite musicians and formed Daz & The Demons in his newfound home of Los Angeles.
8 Songs, the debut album by Daz & the Demons, pairs hook-drenched guitar pop with witty, illustrative lyrics and a vintage flair that finds the band existing in the same dimension as The Lemon Twigs, Shannon & The Clams, Mo Troper and Diners. Each track finds Cordeux’s Australian accent laid in contrast with the celestial backing vocals of Mackenzie Howe (guitar/vocals) and Genevieve Patterson (keys/vocals) as they float wistfully over the elastic rhythms of bassist Zachary Schellhase and drummer Spencer Lere. The self-produced album was mixed and mastered by Mike Bridavsky of Russian Recording (Deerhoof, Mac DeMarco, Built To Spill) who applied his adept ear and meticulous, all-analog workflow.
8 Songs will be released April 5th, 2024.
